Welcome to CaroAlAparato! I'm Carolina, and today we're going to talk about a key part of the internet: emails! We will explain Gmail, go over this app's features and how to write emails. We will also show you how to subscribe to CaroAlAparato's newsletter, so you can be up to date!

What is Gmail?

Gmail is an e-mail service offered by Google. You can access it through your preferred browser or its app. Today I'll explain how the app works, although the website has a similar layout.

Gmail

You can follow this tutorial to download apps:

To use Gmail you will need a Google account (also, if you use Android, you will need one for Google Play), so here you have an article where we explain how to create one and we talk about what you can do with it:

First of all, once we open the app, we will have to log into Google (you can follow the tutorial from the last link to do so).

Once we log in, we will find our inbox:

At the bottom we'll find:

  • The letter symbol is our inbox.

  • The camera will allow you to create 'reunions' (videocalls). I will not explain this feature as we already have a post explaining how to videocall someone, as well as instructions to do so in Whatsapp.

On the top part of the screen we will find:

In this search bar, we can search emails by the sender's name, subject, or content.

In the profile pic that you will find on the right, we can change between Google accounts and manage them.

If we tap on the three lines that you will find on the left, this menu will come up:

  • ALL INBOXES: This will show us our full inbox (all the emails we received across all of the Google accounts we registered in our device).

  • INBOX: The inbox of the current Google account.

  • STARRED: Here, the emails that you signal with a star will appear. To do so, tap on the star symbol that will come up on the right of the email until it turns yellow.

  • SNOOZED: Here we will find the emails that you program to receive later.

  • IMPORTANT: The emails marked as importants will come up here. Google registers this activity and automatically signals some emails as 'important', in an attempt to help you.

  • SENT: All the emails you have sent will appear here.

  • SCHEDULED: Here all the emails you schedule to be sent later will be displayed.

  • DRAFTS: In this section, you will find all of your drafts (emails that have yet to be sent).

  • ALL EMAILS: All your emails will appear here.

  • SPAM: The emails that Gmail or you mark as 'SPAM' won't be shown in your inbox, but here.

  • BIN: Here you can find all the emails that you have deleted.

  • CREATE NEW: You can create new tags to organize your emails.

  • SETTINGS: Gmail and your Google account settings.

How do I send an email?

To send an email, go to the 'INBOX' section, and on the bottom right corner, tap 'Compose'.

  • In the 'To' section write the email address you want to send this email to.

  • In the 'From' section you can choose which email address to send this email from.

  • In the 'Subject' section, write the 'title' of your email, this will appear in the preview of the email, in the inbox.

  • Compose the message in the 'Compose email' section.

  • Tap on the clip that you will find on the top part of the screen to upload pictures, files, videos, etc.

  • Tap on the blue paper plane to send the email.

  • Tap on the tree little dots that you will find on the top right corner to schedule the send of the email, activate confidential mode (which will give the email an 'expiration date' or will make it necessary to have a password to read the content of the email) or to discard the email.

Once the message is sent, this notification will come up, tap 'Undo' to cancel the send.

That's all for today! I hope you guys have enjoyed today's post and that you understood how Gmail works, next week I will also talk about Gmail, so if you have any doubts or suggestions, leave them in the comments. Have a nice week!

See you!
